Leadership

Senior Pastor

Matt McGahen
I get the privilege of serving as Senior Pastor. My wife, Bridget, and I have served in several ministry contexts across the country (including NYC, Colorado, and Washington) and we look forward to using the experience and gifts God has placed in us for His kingdom work here in our Fulton and Montgomery counties. We have two young kids that we adore so much, as well as a weird and loving goldendoodle. On top of serving God’s church, I enjoy spending time in the mountains hiking and camping, playing and winning board games, reading sci-fi books, and sharing a good charcuterie board. My favorite verse changes almost monthly, but at the moment I’m really chewing on Luke 23:42, when one of the criminals on the cross with Jesus says to our Lord – “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” It’s a tear-jerking reminder of a humble posture we are to take in recognizing our place as well as recognizing the throne of Jesus.

Ministry Assistant

Kathy Calabrese
I am the Ministry Assistant at the church and I also serve on the Pastor Search Team. I am married and have 6 children, 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild on the way. I like spending time with family, riding four wheelers, swimming, and doing anything outdoors when it’s warm. One Bible verse that I find myself saying a lot is Psalm 139:23-24. “Search me O God, and know my heart: try me and know my thoughts and see if there be any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Kevin Cope
I currently serve on the Leadership Team and help teach and lead our teen group. I am especially energized to mentor young men in their faith one-on-one. My wife Sally and I have been involved with FCC since its inception. It has been a great adventure walking with the Lord and we have seen God work wonderfully at Fulmont all these years. I enjoy boating, fishing, baseball, riding our side-by-side, and spending time with my family, including our new grandchild. I am a local family physician with St. Mary’s and have a special interest in helping people battle opioid addiction. I also serve as medical director for Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, and Lexington ARC, which supports many people in our area with special needs. One of my favorite verses is Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Todd Deshane
I am a co-Ministry Leader (with my wife, Patty) of the IT Team and I am currently serving on the Leadership Team. I am also one of the teachers of the teen FCC Kids class and have served on the Pastor Search Team. My hobbies include traveling, having BBQ picnics with my family, using various Artificial Intelligence tools to create video games with my son, and assisting my daughter with her books and songs. My day job is related to figuring out the best place for rocks to do math, so I like how Luke 19:39-40 talks about stones giving praise to Jesus if someone tries to stop his followers from praising Him: Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” “I tell you,” He replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”

Ron Green
My wife, Jill, and I have 3 children and 6 grands. I am a member of the Leadership Team, Youth Ministry Team, Hospitality Team, and Building Team. My favorite thing is spending time doing things with my family. I love bike riding with family and alone. All of my grands and I enjoy BMX racing. A verse that I have used for a very long time is Psalm 119:105 – “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”

Ministry Leaders

Sally Cope
I am currently serving as the co-director of our children’s ministry. I became a Christ-follower during my college years. Sharing Jesus and His Word with kids has been a passion for me for many years and continues to be an area of ministry that energizes me! My husband (Kevin Cope) and I were founding members of the church 25 years ago. We have 4 adult children and were recently blessed with our first grandchild! That has been amazing!! Personally, I enjoy my 3 rescue dogs and their adoptions led me to volunteer as an adoption coordinator with their rescue organization for about 10 years. I also enjoy walking, flower gardening, boating, golf, and playing Oculus with our adult kids!

Rick Elsenbeck
I have been a member of FCC since 1999. I currently serve on the Pastor Search Team. Over the years, I have served on the Leadership Team, the Building Team, and as a teacher in the FCC Kids program. My wife, Cindy, and I have been married since 1979. We have 3 adult married children and 8 amazing grandchildren. I love being with my family: teaching, guiding, and helping them. Ephesians 2:8-10 is dear to me. “For by grace you have been saved, through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

Cheryl Jonas-Acquilla
I serve as Ministry Leader of the Prayer Team and Missions. I have also served on the Leadership Team. Other roles include being one of the teen leaders, one of the teachers for the teens, and one of the church door keepers. My family includes my husband, three step-children, eight grands, and three greats. Traveling, swimming, kayaking, hiking, snowshoeing, biking, being with family, and encouraging others are my favorite activities. One of my verses for everyday living is found in Psalm 19:14. “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.”

Rob Kopsick
I am the Worship Leader for our wonderful church family. I am also the Ministry Leader of the Audio/Visual Team, which was previously led by Hannah Meyers. I have been married for over 20 years to my college sweetheart, Ginnel. Our family has been attending Fulmont Community Church for over 14 years and we love the sense of family that is fostered among the members. I have been involved in leading worship since I was 14 years old and consider it a blessing to be able to give my talents back to God in this way. I sing and have played guitar, drums, and bass. It is my honor and privilege to lead His people in worship during our weekly service. Psalm 100:1-2 – “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs.”

Lori Meyers
I have the privilege of co-directing the children’s Sunday Morning ministry, age 3 through teens. This includes selecting curriculum, supporting teachers, addressing concerns, planning special events, and making sure classes have the resources needed to conduct ministry. I am also teaching the FCC Kids grades 2-5 class. I am a retired special educator, which has helped me make our classes inclusive with an emphasis on a variety of interests, abilities, learning styles, and sensory needs. My goals include helping children to: gain a knowledge of the Bible and the plan of Salvation, develop Bible skills, and understand how to apply Bible truths to their lives. I foster a relationship with each child to become a trusted adult resource in their lives.

I love gardens and feel like I’ve learned many lessons about God as I study nature and watch things grow. Although the church garden area is small, it is one of the first things someone sees when they visit our church. I have also found that working in the gardens has allowed me to have many conversations with people in the community who stop to chat as I work.

Diane Poquette
I’ve been a member of Fulmont Community Church since 2008, when we moved to Gloversville. I’ve been married to Tom for 42 wonderful years. We have two grown children and two beautiful grandchildren. I’m a retired special education teacher. Among the things I love to do are singing, square dancing, and traveling. Most people recognize me as a member of the Worship Team, where I sing backup vocals. I also teach in FCC Kids and participate in the Prayer Ministry after the church services, and I enjoy organizing social events like our (fairly) Annual Chili Cook-Offs. God has been good to me throughout my life and has been with me through many trials. The verse that God has used in my life is Romans 5:3-5. “Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”

Tom Poquette
I have served on the Leadership Team and I currently facilitate a Men’s Ministry in the county jail. Along with my wife, Diane, I also lead the Prayer Team ministry and teach in FCC children’s church. I have been involved with Fulmont Church since 2007 and have been married to Diane for 42 years. I am recently retired and enjoy traveling, square dancing, and spending time with our two grandchildren. One of my favorite verses is Psalm 27:4 – “One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple.”

Sue Putman
I serve in the FCC Kids ministry and I am leader of Hospitality. I’m married and have 2 children and 3 granddaughters. I love spending time with family, golf, and traveling. And I have a special love for kids. One of my favorite Bible verses is Ephesians 4:29 – “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful so that your words will be encouragement to those who hear them. Like each word is a gift.”

Jeanne So
I am the Ministry Leader of the Wellness Team at FCC. The Wellness Ministry has been on hold since the pandemic. I have plans to revitalize and identify needs after May 2023. I have been a Fulmont Community Church attendee since 2010 and I participated in 2 Honduras mission trips.

Lisa Vertucci
I serve on the Pastor Search Team and Hospitality Team. Along with my husband, Mark, I have attended FCC for almost 15 years after receiving an invitation from a couple of friends. Over the years, we have developed a number of service and personal relationships with others at FCC, which has been a blessing to us. I enjoy spending time with my family, researching genealogy, and relaxing with my kitties (Missy & Sunshine). I find strength through Psalm 25.
